Day 61 : Pulaski to Pulaski

September 14, 2016 6 Comments

We woke up, packed the bikes, stalled because of rain, and finally left around 8:20. We took a few photos of the bikes with the Lighthouse and went on our way.  We rode into Pulaski, through construction, and BAM Winona fell. She caught an edge on an uneven surface, fell on her right side, and… Continue reading Day 61 : Pulaski to Pulaski

We reluctantly rode 69 miles to Pulaski, NY. Neither of us felt like riding, especially since we had some elevation gain.  In total we climbed 3,822.  We pushed on and arrived at the Salmon River Lighthouse, our home for the evening. After showering, we rented canoes and explored Lake Ontario until we both were starving.… Continue reading Day 60 : lighthouse mania

On Sunday, day 58, we took a day off to enjoy Lake Keuka and see what Hammondsport has to offer.  Sunday recap The weather was perfect for riding – cool and cloudy – but instead we rented a boat and drove it around the lake with lunch at The Swiss Inn. After lunch we faceTimed… Continue reading Day 58 & 59: fall is coming

Day 57 : first finger

We woke up early but enjoyed having a house all to ourselves (and NY wine the night before) so we had another late start. Once all the coffee, oatmeal, and toast was gone, and the bikes were packed it was 8:20am. We rode 63 miles to Hammondsport, on Lake Keuka, the first of the finger… Continue reading Day 57 : first finger

Another late start around 8am… Seems to be happening more often than not these days. We crossed into New York almost immediately.  After we took that picture, it started raining! We rode in the rain for about 30 minutes.  Mile 20ish we came to these signs: We rolled the dice and continued on. We were… Continue reading Day 56 : empire state of mind

Day 55 : dodging the rain

We both were suddenly awaken to the sound of rain hitting the window, it sounded like someone was shooting BB’s at the window. This was followed by hours of thunder. Needless to say neither of us slept well.  Late start at 8:20 for our 38 mile ride to Red Oak Campground (still in PA) near… Continue reading Day 55 : dodging the rain

We started our day a little late today at 8am and rode through Geneva-on-the-lake, OH towards PA.  Around mile 25 we crossed into Pennsylvania.  And rode through really pretty, hilly countryside.  In total we rode 76 miles with 4,111 of climbing. The hills are steep, but nothing like MO (though we are having some flashbacks… Continue reading Day 54: mo-flashbacks

We rode 54 miles to Geneva-on-the-lake, OH. Initially we rode through downtown Cleveland with a wonderful cloud display. Downtown was busy but the traffic was very manageable. Heading out of downtown we rode through all the neighborhood types, again.  In one of the nicer areas, part of the road was closed due to a bridge… Continue reading Day 53 : erie lake riding

7:30am start from the Meisler’s ice cream castle. It was sad to leave but the morning was perfect riding weather! We’re so thankful for their hospitality & we can’t wait to come back!  We cut across the Edison Bridge on Route 2 to save us 20 miles (or 2 riding hours). About 1/2 a mile… Continue reading Day 52 : exploring Cleveland

Day 50 : will ride 4 ice cream

We rode 52 miles from Findlay to Port Clinton, home of Toft’s Dairy (i.e. The best ice cream around).  We stopped in Fremont at a bike shop where they told us our ‘chains are way overdue’ for replacement, so we both have new chains (which feels like riding a new bike)! Sergio eating his favorite… Continue reading Day 50 : will ride 4 ice cream
