Late start today, around 8:30, for our 28 mile ride from Window Rock to Gallup. First a detour to Window Rock, which the town is named after. We saw a few dogs on the way, who didn’t seem to care for us. Off to Gallup and we saw this sign – New Mexico – our… Continue reading Day 16 : still no beer
6am start for our 98 mile ride from Second Mesa to Window Rock. Initially about 12 dogs chased us out of Second Mesa. This trend followed through First Mesa where Winona was inches away from getting bit. We stopped at a police station shortly after to get pepper spray, but they didn’t have any. So… Continue reading Day 15 : need pepper spray!
6:30am start with 58 miles from Tuba City to Second Mesa and 3.3k of climbing. Winona’s command center (yes, we rode up that Mesa in the distance): Looking back on Tuba City. We rode the 25 miles from Cameron to Tuba City in 1:42 – pretty quick- with 1k elevation gain. Only 86 degrees when we finished – win! Frozen burritos for lunch and probably Denny’s for dinner.
5am kisses from Pepper & 6am we’re in route to Cameron. First a quick obligatory stop at Winona road: Shortly after Winona road, an AZRA bus full of people off to raft the Grand Canyon passed us. Funny thing, Winona was wearing the same shirt on the first day of the Grand Canyon as today!… Continue reading Day 12 : ‘the scenic route’
Sedona to Flagstaff is about 28 miles with 3,268 feet elevation gain. It goes through Oak Creek Canyon, which is really pretty! We stopped at the top and enjoyed the view! After our lovely rest day, we started our59 mile ride from Prescott to Sedona around 5:30am. We saw a beautiful sunrise on the bike, again, and had a fun send-off with Jessie and Eddie. Happy rest day! We woke up early, went for coffee, and enjoyed the ‘cool’ weather (it’s currently 91). Then, our besties, Jessie and Eddie came from Tucson to visit us in Prescott! We enjoyed tasting the delicious brews Prescott has to offer! Onward to Sedona tomorrow!
Today was a tough one! We got a late start from Wickenburg. Immediately Sergio noticed his tire wasn’t fully inflated from yesterday’s flat, so we pulled over to fix that. Then the route Google and Garmin said we should take ended up being arough dirt road which we discovered after a few miles and turned… Continue reading Day 7 : brutal
Another long one, about 90 miles from Quartzsite to Wickenburg. It was basically all uphill with a headwind the entire way. We started around 5am and watched the sunrise again! The first 10 miles were on the freeway, which still sucked, but the remaining were on a pretty large shoulder with annoying bumps every 5… Continue reading Day 6 : first flat!
